Speaking to Romanian outlet Gazeta Sporturilor, Florin Manea, Radu Drăgușin’s agent, discussed the reasoning behind the central defender opting to join Tottenham Hotspur despite a late advance from Bayern Munich.
“We can’t believe we turned down Bayern Munich,” said Manea, via Emanuel Roşu. “Radu had given his word to Tottenham Hotspur and chose to respect this. We’re all still mind blown a bit.”
It was reported by Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday evening that Bayern Munich submitted a formal bid to Genoa at the eleventh hour to try and hijack Drăgușin’s move to Premier League side Tottenham.
But after deliberating, Manea stated that a decision was made at 8am on Wednesday morning, and that Drăgușin would be joining Tottenham as he “dreamed of playing in the Premier League from a young age,” despite more money from Bayern Munich and interest from both Milan and Napoli.
After missing out on Drăgușin, Bayern Munich are no prioritising a move for Tottenham’s Eric Dier. The Rekordmeister have had a verbal agreement with Dier for some time, and the Englishman is expected to cost the Bundesliga side around €4m. Should a total agreement be reached, Dier will reportedly sign a contract until 2025 plus a 12 month option.
