Thomas Tuchel suffered bizarre injury prior to Bayern Munich’s win against Lazio

Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he suffered an injury while giving a motivational speech prior to Bayern Munich’s Champions League Round of 16 win against Lazio on Tuesday night.

Speaking to Prime Video after the game, Tuchel said: “The motivational speech before the game cost me my big toe.”

During his post-match press conference, Tuchel revealed that he kicked a door during his speech, which is why he was seen limping on the touchline.

“I was treated straight away,” added Tuchel. “But I no longer had the courage to take the show off because I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get it back on.” Which is why Bayern’s head coach was “sat for 90 minutes.”

Bayern Munich advance to the Champions League Quarter-Finals

Bayern Munich needed to overturn a 1-0 deficit heading into their second-leg against Lazio. Although frustrated by the Italian opposition on Tuesday night, Harry Kane broke the deadlock six minutes prior to the break, before Thomas Müller added a second, giving Bayern an aggregate lead, in first-half stoppage time.

Kane then doubled his tally for the night just after the hour mark, putting Bayern Munich through to the Champions League quarter-finals. That’s Kane’s 33rd goal for Bayern in as many games across all competitions this season.
