RB Leipzig likely to sign another attacking midfielder this winter

After the departures of Emil Forsberg and Timo Werner in the winter, Bild reports that RB Leipzig will try to sign another versatile attacking midfielder after the arrival of Eljif Elmas.

The club are trying to mitigate the effects of potential summer departures with Xavi Simons, due to the expiry of his loan, and Dani Olmo, due to a €60m release clause, also potentially leaving the club in the summer. The target is a versatile attacking midfielder who can play in a similar position to Simons and Olmo as well as at striker.

Leipzig also have salary space available after the departures of Forsberg to New York Red Bulls, Werner on loan to Tottenham as well as the termination of Fabio Carvalho’s loan from Liverpool and sending Ilaix Moriba on loan.

However, due to Leipzig currently have good team cohesion the desired player must fit into the squad as well as in a footballing capacity as well. The coach Marco Rose backed up this view recently: “The squad is just right if no one gets injured. But from experience, we all know that this is a pious wish. If something happens, we are relatively fast at: too small squad. We are excellently positioned at the moment. But we will certainly look around, and if something really makes sense, I definitely advise us as a trainer to implement that.”
