RB Leipzig face reduced chance of keeping Xavi Simons amid Kylian Mbappe’s departure from PSG

Speaking to Sky Germany, RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder confirmed the club have a reduced chance of keeping Xavi Simons beyond the expiry of his loan at the end of the season.

When asked about the prospect of Simons staying at Leipzig, Schröder said: “For us, this is rather negative in the train of thought. At the end of the season, he will go back to Paris, and accordingly, we will only have the opportunity to possibly ask again in the summer.”

The 20-year-old has been one of Leipzig’s stand-out players this season. In 21 games in the Bundesliga, Simons has six goals and seven assists.

During the early stages of his spell in Germany, there was hope at Leipzig that they would be able to keep Simons for another season but due to the recent news that PSG striker Kylian Mbappe will leave the club at the end of the season. there is the potential that Simons could finally get his chance in the PSG first-team.

If Simons does depart, Leipzig will likely need to invest in another replacement for the 20-year-old. Previously it was reported that Genk’s Bilal El Khannous is an option for Leipzig.
