Preview: Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

On Saturday evening Bayern Munich will be hosting RB Leipzig as Bayern look to get back on track with their title race whilst RB Leipzig continue their quest to reach the top four.

It was confirmed two days ago that Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel will leave his position at the end of this season.

The pressure was already increasing on Tuchel after the past few results, as Bayern lost to Leverkusen and Bochum recently which now places them eight points behind top spot. In addition, Tuchel’s side suffered a 1-0 loss in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Lazio.

RB Leipzig are enjoying a good run of form recently after losing three Bundesliga games in a row at the start of 2024.

Marco Rose’s side have collected seven out of a possible nine this month.

They currently sit in fifth place and are just one point behind fourth placed Borussia Dortmund.

The last time these two sides met was back in September when Bayern rescued a point from being 2-0 down at half time.

Just one month before this, Leipzig defeated Bayern 3-0 in the DFL Supercup, with Dani Olmo scoring all three goals.

Team News

Bayern Munich have both of their right backs suffering with injuries as Sacha Boey and Noussair Mazraoui have hamstring issues.

Other players that will be missing due to injuries include Kingsley Coman, Bouna Sarr, Serge Gnabry and Alphonso Davies.

Dayot Upamecano is suspended after picking up a red card in the Champions league match against Lazio last week.

Konrad Laimer will return to the squad after a calf injury.

For Leipzig, the only unavailable player for Marco Rose will be defender Lukas Klostermann as he sustained a thigh injury in the win over Borussia Monchengladbach last week.

He is likely to be replaced at centre back by Mohamed Simakan.
