Predicted Borussia Dortmund XI vs Union Berlin: How do BVB replace Donyell Malen?

Borussia Dortmund will be without star performer Donyell Malen for their game at Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchman is sidelined after accumulating his fifth yellow card in the Bundesliga in last weekend’s defeat against Hoffenheim.

Edin Terzić is still without Gregor Kobel, who is sidelined with an adductor issue, meaning that Alexander Meyer will retain his place in goal. Dortmund are also without Sébastien Haller (Ankle) and Felix Nmecha (Hip), although the latter has returned to training.

The big question for Dortmund is who will replace Malen, who has scored five goals in his last five Bundesliga games. Should Mats Hummels return in defence, that would see Emre Can revert back to midfield alongside Marcel Sabitzer, which in turn could see Julian Brandt take Malen’s attacking role. Other options are Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi, while Julien Duranville is likely to find a place on the bench.

Predicted Borussia Dortmund XI vs Union Berlin

Alexander Meyer – Julian Ryerson, Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck, Ian Maatsen – Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer – Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus, Julian Brandt – Niclas Füllkrug.
