PLAYER RATINGS | Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 VfB Stuttgart

Bayer Leverkusen maintained their unbeaten season as they once again came from behind to draw 2-2 with VfB Stuttgart.

The first half proved to be a cagey affair with both teams never really having many chances in front of goal. Sehrou Guirassy had Stuttgart’s best chance when he missed a head that you would normally bank on the striker scoring. While for Leverkusen, their chances fell to Patrik Schick, who sliced at a rebound and missed what would normally be a clear chance.

Stuttgart took an early lead in the second half when Chris Führich latched onto a rebounded shot before 10 minutes later Deniz Undav would double Stuttgart’s lead, seriously putting into doubt Leverkusen’s unbeaten season.

Amine Adli would cut the deficit in the half four minutes later and Leverkusen began to push for the equaliser.

It looked like the elusive equaliser would not arrive as Odilon Kossounou had a goal ruled out for offside. But in shades of last weekend against Borussia Dortmund, Florian Wirtz played in a corner and after some ping-ponging in the box, Robert Andrich managed to poke home the equaliser.

Guirassy will regret several of the clear chances he had when Stuttgart were 2-0 to potentially end the game.

Leverkusen will now look ahead to their Europa League semi-final against Roma on Thursday while Stuttgart face a tough test against Bayern Munich.
