Joshua Kimmich warns Bayern Munich teammates after Werder Bremen defeat

Joshua Kimmich has warned his Bayern Munich teammates that a performance like today’s 1-0 defeat against Werder Bremen should not happen, with the Rekordmeister now seven points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

“I don’t think the defeat was deserved,” said Kimmich (h/t: iMiaSanMia). “But you could tell that Bremen were hungrier than we were. And that must not happen to us at this stage of the season. You don’t get the feeling that we know what was at stake.”

Ole Werner’s Bremen kept Bayern Munich quiet in the first half, and even took the lead through Justin Njinmah but the German’s goal was ruled out following a foul in the build-up. Die Werderaner then defended heroically in the final 20 minutes after taking the lead through Mitchell Weiser, a former player of both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, and his goal is one that could play a big role in where the Meisterschale ends up in May.

Although seven points behind Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, Bayern can close the gap to four points with a win against Union Berlin on Wednesday night. The fixture, scheduled for December, was postponed due to heavy snowfall in Bavaria.

Speaking on this season’s Bundesliga title race, Thomas Tuchel has called for an improvement against Union Berlin after reiterating that there’s still a long way to go in this season’s title race.
