January transfer off for Serhou Guirassy?

With 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has attracted interest from Europe’s biggest clubs but the Guinean forward could now remain at the Swabian side due to a clause in his contract.

It’s been reported that Guirassy has a €17.5m release clause but new information from BILD suggests that this clause for a winter exit is only valid until mid-January, i.e. around the time when the Africa Cup of Nations begin, which start on Saturday. Therefore, it’s unlikely that there will be any concrete negotiations with a potential new club by then, more so given that the player’s current focus is on the upcoming AFCON.

That means that despite heightened interest from Manchester United, the chances of Guirassy remaining at Stuttgart beyond January have increased tenfold.

Injury worry for Serhou Guirassy

Guirassy featured in Guinea’s 2-0 win against Nigeria on Monday afternoon but only lasted less than 30 minutes after picking up a thigh injury. Although no full diagnosis as of yet, VfB’s Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed to Kicker that the Bundesliga side are “in very close contact” with those responsible at Guinea.
