‘It’s unbelievable what Edin Terzić is doing’ – Borussia Dortmund’s Hans-Joachim Watzke

What a difference 12 months make. In May last year, Borussia Dortmund were heading into the final game of the Bundesliga season with their fate in their own hands with Die Schwarzgelben going into the final game on top of the table. But a draw for Dortmund against Mainz and a win for Bayern Munich meant Edin Terzić and BVB missed out on the Meisterschale.

Heartbreak.

But now, one year later, Borussia Dortmund have secured their place in the 2024 Champions League final, 11 years after appearing in their last. A famous 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes has booked a place at Wembley for Terzić and Co. Mats Hummels and Marco Reus are the only survivors from 2013 with the duo given the opportunity to right some wrongs at the end of the month.

Not an easy ride for Borussia Dortmund

Credit to Terzić, because it certainly hasn’t been easy for Borussia Dortmund’s head coach. A difficult start to the campaign saw the German come under significant amount of scrutiny, but he got it absolutely spot on over 180 minutes against PSG.

Dortmund Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke reserved high praise for Terzić.

“When you play in a competition, the final is always the goal. I’m happy for him,” Watzke told Amazon Prime. “It’s unbelievable what Edin is doing. Last year we were just about to win the championship. Now we’re at Wembley in the Champions League final. What more do you want in two and a half years?

“We always knew what we had in each other. Edin is someone who works meticulously and extremely hard – for his club. In the end, you get rewarded, that’s how I feel. As a coach, it’s a bit more difficult to get to the final with BVB than with Paris. That’s completely clear. But he did it. It’s great for him.”
