Injury worry for Serhou Guirassy ahead of Africa Cup of Nations

Guinea beat Nigeria 2-0 on Monday afternoon in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, but Stuttgart will already be sweating on the fitness of Serhou Guirassy after he was substituted with a thigh injury with less than 30 minutes played.

Guirassy (27) has been in excellent form this season with 17 goals and one assist in 14 Bundesliga games this season, which places Stuttgart third, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, after 16 matches played.

As of yet, the extent of Guirassy’s injury is unclear, but it’s certainly something that Stuttgart will be monitoring. Interest in the Guinean is high with Manchester United one of several clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old forward.

Stuttgart though are yet to receive an offer for Guirassy, who has a reported €17.5m release clause but until clubs know the extent of the player’s injury, they may be hesitant.

Guirassy’s Guinea will face Gambia, Cameroon and Senegal in the AFCON, and the opening game will see Ivory Coast play Guinea-Bissau on Saturday.
