Incredible stat shows Jamal Musiala’s influence in the final third

Only Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham (€180m) has a higher market value than Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala (€110m) for U21 players, according to Transfermarkt, and the latter has since proved just why he’s a generational talent.

Against Darmstadt, Musiala (21) was directly involved in a goal for the fifth Bundesliga game in a row, equalling his own record – set between October/November 2022 – with five goals and four assists in his last five league games.

Not only that, according to Opta, Musiala was directly involved in 17 shots in Bayern’s 5-2 win against Darmstadt on Saturday (nine shots and eight chances created) which is a new record for a player in the Bundesliga since data collection began in the 2004/05 season.

Musiala scored 12 and created 13 in 33 Bundesliga games last season and already the 21-year-old has 10 goals and six assists after 21 league games this campaign. Although 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, the German is well on his way to recording his best season in the Bundesliga.

As per FBRef, no player has recorded more Goal-Creating Actions/90 in the Bundesliga than Musiala (0.97) this season while his 17 Goal-Creating Actions is only bettered by seven players across Europe’s top five leagues.

Julian Nagelsmann has a big decision to make

Ahead of Euro 2024, Julian Nagelsmann must find a way to play both Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz at this summer’s tournament. The duo are the best talent Germany has had since the Golden Era that went on to win the 2014 World Cup.

There has been considerable debate around whether the two could actually play together in the same team. Due to both being at their brilliant best when in the central number ten position, this has made utilising both fairly difficult for Nagelsmann, but he has to find a way.
