Harry Kane has Robert Lewandowski’s ‘unbreakable’ record in his sights

On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich dismantled a lacklustre Mainz side 8-1 at the Allinaz Arena, as Der Rekordmeister appeared to be back to their brilliant best. A brace from Leon Goretzka and further strikes from Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Thomas Müller ensured Thomas Tuchel’s side took out their recent frustrations against the relegation candidates.

However, the other three goals came from none other than Bayern’s record-signing Harry Kane. The Englishman’s hat trick subsequently took his Bundesliga tally for the season up to 30 goals, just eleven away from a certain record.

In the 2020–2021 season, Robert Lewandowski set what many believed would be an almost unbreakable record by scoring 41 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign. Nevertheless, with nine games left, Kane requires just eleven more strikes to equal the record and twelve to make it his own.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has proven to be a phenomenal signing for the record champions, and while he may not lift a piece of silverware this season, he could break yet another record. During this campaign, it has felt as though the England captain has broken every single record possible, but this one could be the icing on the cake.

So far, Kane is averaging 1.2 goals a game, meaning that he is on course to score another ten goals, falling just shy of equalling the record. Regardless, with the Meisterschale now out of the picture, the Englishman may focus on toppling Lewandowski’s record, leaving a lasting legacy in the Bundesliga.
