Hans-Joachim Watzke to step down as Borussia Dortmund CEO next year.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke will resign when his contract expires in the Autumn of 2025, Sky Germany reports.

Watzke has been the club’s CEO since February 2005 and has seen many highs and lows during his tenure.

From Champions League finals defeats to Bundesliga titles and DFB Pokal glory, the 64-year-old has overseen quite the spell at BVB.

However, he announced on Monday that he is he doesn’t wish to extend his stay at the club.

His statement read: “I will no longer renew my contract. I will be stepping down from management in the fall of next year.”

Regardless of on-field results, you feel that Watzke will go down as an all-time great at the club. When he took over as CEO in 2005, Dortmund were cash-strapped and facing an internal battle financially.

Since then, the club has once back-to-back Bundesliga titles, DFB Pokals, and reached the final of the Champions League.
