Former Bayer Leverkusen director Tim Steidten a candidate for Liverpool

Sky Germany reports that current West Ham technical director and former Bayer Leverkusen director Tim Steidten is a candidate for the vacant role at Liverpool.

Liverpool’s temporary sporting director Jörg Schmadtke will leave the club at the end of the January transfer window and the club needs to find a replacement as they also look for a new manager in the summer to replace Jürgen Klopp. There has yet to be any direct contact between Steidten and Liverpool.

However, Steidten is happy at West Ham and has been key in finalising the transfer of Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, and James Ward-Prowse who have all been a success since arriving in the summer as well as the more recent signing of Kalvin Phillips.

In his former role at Leverkusen, along with Simon Rolfes and previously Rüdi Voller, Steidten was key in bringing in some of the players who are key to Leverkusen’s title charge such as Jeremie Frimpong, Edmond Tapsoba, Odilon Kossounou whilst also involved in the scouting of Florian Wirtz and current Aston Villa player Moussa Diaby.

Most importantly, he also played a role in the hiring of Xabi Alonso as Leverkusen’s manager in October 2022.
