Donyell Malen to remain at Borussia Dortmund despite Jadon Sancho’s arrival

Borussia Dortmund have communicated internally that Donyell Malen will remain at the club beyond January despite the arrival of Jadon Sancho, according to BILD.

Unless Dortmund receive a substantial offer for Malen, who has a contract until 2026, the Dutchman will remain at the Signal Iduna Park as they try to play catch up to Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. BILD also note that Malen appears to be back in the plans of Edin Terzić after starting the 24-year-old in BVB’s last three Bundesliga games.

It’s been a difficult campaign for Donyell Malen

Despite a positive start to the Bundesliga season which saw a return of three goals in four games for Malen, the Dutch international has since struggled. Yet to register any assists, Malen has scored five league goals in 16 games, averaging a contribution every 209 minutes.

As Borussia Dortmund pursued the signing of Manchester United’s Sancho, it was reported last month that Malen may have been used in a potential swap deal for the Englishman.

After 17 games, Borussia Dortmund find themselves 15 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and if they are to mount a serious title challenge should B04 or Bayern drop off, they must win their next games against FC Köln, Bochum, Heidenheim and Freiburg.
