Deco: “Bayern want Ronald Araújo? We’re not thinking about selling him.”

Bayern Munich’s appreciation for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araújo has been long understood, with the Bavarian outfit keen to lure the Uruguayan to the Allianz Arena. It had even been reported earlier in December that Der Rekordmeister would be willing to go all out for the 24-year-old.

However, with Barcelona doing all they can to keep Araújo at the club beyond the expiration of his current contract, which runs until 2026, Bayern’s chances of landing their dream centre-back target continue to look slim. A reality that becomes more apparent due to Barcelona’s sporting director Deco explaining how Araújo is not for sale when speaking to Spanish TV channel Movistar:

“Bayern want Ronald Araújo? We’re not thinking about selling him. He’s not for sale because he’s one of the key players in Barca’s future. He has a long contract, and we are not thinking of selling him. He shows every day that he is happy here. There is nothing to talk about.”

Despite Thomas Tuchel giving the green light on the deal after speaking to Araújo himself, it would appear that a move for the defender would have to wait until the summer. However, it is understood that a lucrative offer of around €80 million could persuade the Spanish giants if an extended contract fails to be reached.

Nevertheless, after the signing of Eric Dier, it does not appear that the record champions will dip back into the market for a central defender this January. Therefore, the summer will act as a reset, where they can reassess their options once again.
