Bundesliga Predictions | Round 23

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

My match of the week is Bayern Munich against RB Leipzig. By the time this kicks off the gap between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table could be 11 points. Bayern will want to show some sort of reaction from the news that Thomas Tuchel will leave at the end of the season. Leipzig, in the meantime, haven’t always been convincing this season. But the Red Bulls did produce the blueprint performance on how to beat Bayern in the DFL Supercup to start the season. With that in mind, I suspect that the two will split points, which wouldn’t really help anyone, but Leverkusen.

Manu’s Predictions:

Leverkusen 3-0 Mainz; Union 1-1 Heidenheim; Gladbach 2-1 Bochum; Werder 2-1 Darmstadt; Stuttgart 3-1 Köln; Bayern 2-2 Leipzig; Frankfurt 2-1 Wolfsburg; Dortmund 1-0 Hoffenheim; Augsburg 1-1 Freiburg

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Union Berlin vs Heidenheim

My game of the week has to be Heidenheim’s trip to the German capital to face Union Berlin. The Köpenick side have all but shaken off a disastrous start to the season and are suddenly one of the most in-form sides in the Bundesliga. Since Nenad Bjelica took over, only two clubs have picked up more points than Union in the league. However, on Saturday they’ll have to be at their very best to beat a Heidenheim side that have an impressive run of results on the road to an already formidable home record. As such, both of these teams go into Saturday’s clash at the peak of their powers and it should be a fascinating tie.

Stefan’s Predictions:

Leverkusen 2-0 Mainz; Union 2-2 Heidenheim; Gladbach 2-1 Bochum; Bremen 2-0 Darmstadt; Stuttgart 2-0 Koln; Bayern 2-2 RB Leipzig; Frankfurt 2-1 Wolfsburg; Dortmund 2-1 Hoffenheim; Augsburg 1-1 Freiburg

Scores after MD22: Manu – 139, Stefan – 148
