Borussia Mönchengladach close to completing the signing of Holstein Kiel’s Philipp Sander

Sky Germany reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are close to completing the signing of Holstein Kiel midfielder Philipp Sander.

A total agreement between the player and the club has been agreed. The move is a permanent deal as Sander has a release clause in his Holstein Kiel contract. The 26-year-old will sign a long-term contract at Die Fohlen.

Sander will be able to play either next to Julian Weigl in defence or as an alternative to the veteran midfielder, the 26-year-old will likely be the replacement for Christoph Kramer.

However, Gladbach are not done raiding the 2.Bundesliga.

The Rheinische Post reports that Ao Tanaka is still an option at Gladbach despite the expected arrival of Sander. RP also reports that St Pauli’s Marcel Hartel is not as much of an option at the club despite his contract expiring at the club in the summer.

This model follows the signing of Robin Hack last summer where Gladbach were able to sign the winger for a low fee from relegated Arminia Bielefeld. The only difference is that Kiel are currently fighting for promotion to the Bundesliga.
