Borussia Dortmund’s expensive summer transfer list has been revealed

As reported by Bild, Borussia Dortmund are preparing for an active summer transfer window, with a number of players on their radar.

It has been a difficult season for Edin Terzić and Dortmund, especially after having to regroup after their heartbreak at home to Mainz on the final day of last season. Regardless, since the turn of the year, Die Schwarzgelben have seen their performances drastically improve, highlighted by their 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Nevertheless, a fourth-place finish is not good enough for BvB, and signings will need to be made if they are to narrow the gap between them and runaway league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. As previously reported, Dortmund are looking to do whatever they can to ensure the long-term stay of Jadon Sancho; however, their summer recruitment will not stop there.

It is understood that central defender Dean Huijsen is being targeted by Dortmund this summer. The talented 18-year-old has been identified as a possible long-term heir to Mats Hummels and, as reported by Sport Bild, has a €30 million price tag attached to him by Juventus.

As well as this, Stuttgart’s Chris Führich is seriously being considered by BvB. With Donyell Malen looking for a route away from the Westfalenstadion this summer, Führich’s qualities are much appreciated in Dortmund and could be an ideal replacement for the Dutchman.

Nonetheless, one area where Dortmund is in significant need of reinforcement is midfield. Emre Can and Salih Özcan have struggled to consistently impress for Dortmund, and after missing out on Edson Álvarez in the summer, Dortmund need to amend their mistake.

Die Schwarzgelben are targeting Porto’s Alan Varela, who has become a key figure for the Portuguese side this season after signing from Boca Juniors in the summer. However, it is expected that signing the Argentine will not be easy.

A €70 million release clause was inserted into Varela’s contract at Porto, and while it is understood that Dortmund could negotiate a lower fee, the Portuguese side’s valuation is not yet clear. Therefore, BvB’s summer transfer list certainly will not come cheap, but if they are to meet their expectations next season, then they will need to make a statement.
