“I’m definitely dissatisfied.” – Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi self-critical of his performances

Karim Adeyemi (22) has been self-critical of his own performances for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season, and has admitted that they’re not good enough.

In an interview with club media, Adeyemi said he “didn’t play a good first half of the season” and stated that he’s “dissatisfied” with himself. Currently sidelined with after suffering a partial tear of the syndesmosis in December, Adeyemi has just four goal contributions (two goals and two assists) in 18 games (796 minutes) across all competitions this season.

Adeyemi also withdrew himself from the Germany U21 squad in a bid to better improve himself. “It was important to reflect on what I needed at the moment,” added the forward. “I had to get my rhythm and perform in Dortmund before I could myself to the national team. That’s why I wanted to cancel those two games.”

Karim Adeyemi dreams of representing Germany at Euro 2024

With Euro 2024 just months away, Adeyemi hopes to represent his country but stated: “I have to get fit first, play well and be better in the table with Dortmund. And then we’ll see whether the national coach nominates me.”

After turning down the opportunity to represent Germany’s U21 team, Adeyemi faced backlash from those at the DFB. Speaking in November, President Bernd Neuendorf said: “It’s no use forcing someone to come here. It doesn’t help the team if someone shows up with half their effort. It has to be with conviction and with passion.”
