Bayern Munich: Matthijs de Ligt comments on farewell rumours

Matthijs de Ligt is focussed on Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash against Lazio on Tuesday night, and is not thinking thinking about a potential departure from the club in the summer.

“At the moment, I’m not thinking about a change,” said De Ligt. “I’m very happy at Bayern Munich.”

Bayern Munich face elimination from the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage if they’re unable to overturn a 1-0 loss at the Stadio Olimpico.

De Ligt was named on the bench in the first leg, but started against both Bochum and RB Leipzig, before being suspended for Friday’s game against Freiburg after accumulating five yellow cards.

The Dutchman has worked his way back into the squad following a knee injury, and is expected to start against Lazio on Tuesday night.

A difficult task for Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel

Elimination from this season’s Champions League at this stage of the season would not only be catastrophic for Bayern Munich, who are 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, but also Thomas Tuchel.

It was confirmed last week that Bayern and Tuchel would be parting ways at the end of the season, but an elimination against Lazio could see them go their separate ways sooner.
