Bayern Munich dealt injury blow with key trio sidelined

Bayern Munich have today confirmed injuries to three key players ahead of their Bavarian derby against Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Rekordmeister will be without Joshua Kimmich (Shoulder), Dayot Upamecano (Hamstring) and Konrad Laimer (Calf) for their upcoming Bundesliga game, all of whom picked up their injuries against Union Berlin in midweek.

Speaking to media on Friday, Thomas Tuchel stated that Laimer and Upamecano would be sidelined for weeks: “That obviously hurts,” said the Bayern head coach. With Kimmich, it’s slightly more complicated: “His shoulder first needs to be immobilised. Then we’ll take things one week at a time in terms of the healing process and the pain levels,” added the 50-year-old.

Bayern Munich’s latest injury update is a significant blow with several players already missing. Serge Gnabry is around six weeks away from making his return to the Bayern Munich squad, while Kim Min-jae and Noussair Mazraoui are representing South Korea and Morocco at the Asia Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

Coming into the game against Augsburg, Bayern Munich remain four points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen following their midweek win against Union, which was originally scheduled for December.

Although Bayern Munich have comfortably won their last three games against Augsburg, their Bavarian neighbours have scored six goals in their last three meetings, and have also won two of their last six games against the Rekordmeister.
