Alexander Nübel on the verge of extending Bayern Munich contract

Alexander Nübel is on the verge of extending his contract at Bayern Munich, according to Florian Plettenberg

The German stop-stopper is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart, who themselves look set to achieve Champions League football next season and possibly finish higher in the Bundesliga than Bayern.

Nübel has long been a conversation at Bayern, even during his time in Ligue 1 with Monaco. The 27-year-old has always refused to be number two to Manuel Neuer and isn’t interested in being at the club until he retires or steps down as number one.

The goalkeeper has a verbal agreement with Bayern and is expected to sign a deal until 2023.

Nübel will then return to Stuttgart for an additional season before arriving back in Munich in the summer of 2025, possibly to be their new number one.

This could mean that Neuer is planning on retiring in 2025. However, he does have the option of extending his Bayern contract until 2026.
