Will Southampton’s Nathan Tella sign for Bayer Leverkusen?

According to Bild, Bayer Leverkusen will continue in their attempts to sign Southampton winger Nathan Tella.

As previously reported, Die Werkself sent an €18m offer to the English side as they look to lure Tella over to the BayArena. However, with the Saints hoping for a fee in the region of €25m, it seems more likely that both sides will come to an agreement for a fee within the region of €23m.

Leverkusen do not want to allow the transfer of Tella to slip through their grasp, as they hold the Englishman in high regard. The speed the 24-year-old offers in attack, as well as his deep runs, are highly appreciated at Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso’s side are willing to make Tella their most expensive signing of the summer.

Last season, Tella scored 17 goals and collected five assists in the Championship to help fire Burnley back to the Premier League. So far in this campaign, the winger has already made two goal contributions from three appearances for his parent club Southampton, proving his consistency in the final third.

While Leverkusen have enjoyed a remarkable transfer window that has left them being considered as potential title contenders in the eyes of many, they are still lacking depth in their attacking options. The addition of Tella would take the pressure away from Florian Wirtz and Jonas Hofmann, and allow for much-needed rotation as the Werkself look to compete on three fronts this season.
