Why Daichi Kamada’s move to Milan has stalled

Despite Milan leading the race to sign Daichi Kamada, the player’s move to Italy has stalled.

As reported via Bild, this is because in Italy, clubs can only register a certain number of non-EU players. And with The Rossoneri signing Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, all non-EU places at Milan are now occupied as England are no longer in the European Union as a result of Brexit.

This then means that Milan must sell one of their non-EU players to make space for Kamada, who has played 29 games for Japan. A free agent since his Eintracht Frankfurt contract expired, the 26-year-old scored 20 and created 29 in 127 games across all competitions while at the Hessen club.

Kamada recorded 23 goal contributions (16 goals, 7 assists) in 47 games for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, his best return to date. His five goals in Eintracht’s 2021/22 Europa League campaign also played a significant role in SGE lifting a European Cup last year.

Kamada wasn’t short on offers either. Borussia Dortmund held a meeting with the player’s entourage while both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid were in the race to sign the Japanese playmaker at one point.
