West Ham United are in talks with Stuttgart over the signing of defender Konstantinos Mavropanos with the former Arsenal defender set to return to the Premier League, according to Kicker.
After missing out on Harry Maguire, West Ham have now turned their attention to the Greek international. Sky Germany reported earlier this month that Mavropanos wants to leave Stuttgart this summer, and is likely to cost a club around €20m.
Mavropanos is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League after leaving Arsenal on a permanent basis for Stuttgart last summer.
The centre-back impressed last season in the Bundesliga, making 34 appearances for Stuttgart.
Now 25-years-old, Mavropanos has matured as a centre-back since his big move to Arsenal back in 2018 as a 20-year-old. Standing at 6ft 4in tall, he is a powerful defender who is dominant in the air and possesses the physical qualities for the Premier League. Additionally, he likes to step into midfield with the ball and is capable of the occasional spectacular goal.
He would face competition for his place at West Ham, with centre-backs at the club including Kurt Zouma, Thilo Kehrer, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna, whose contract expires next year.
