Union Berlin show interest in Monaco’s Ismail Jakobs

As Union Berlin prepare for their first season in the Champions League, the Bundesliga club are showing an interest in signing Monaco’s Ismail Jakobs, according to Kicker.

Although it’s nothing more than loose interest at the moment, Union Berlin are searching the market to strengthen their left-side. Urs Fischer’s side have shown an interest in signing Inter’s Robin Gosens who would reportedly cost between €15m and €20m. A potential signing of Jakobs, who has a market value of €7m – via Transfermarkt – and three-years left on his remaining deal, would likely cost less than Gosens.

Jakobs played 41 games across all competitions for Monaco last season, creating four, but was named in the starting XI just 12 times. The Senegal international also has Bundesliga experience after coming through Köln’s youth team and playing 47 games across all competitions for the Billy Goats before joining Monaco in 2021 for a reported €6.5m.

Union have signed Diogo Leite on a permanent deal whilst Alex Kral joins on loan. Mikkel Kaufmann also joins from Copenhagen for a reported €2.7m but the signing of Gosens or Jakobs would certainly send out a statement.
