RB Leipzig to extend Yussuf Poulsen’s contract

RB Leipzig are likely to extend the contract of Yussuf Poulsen.

That’s according to Kicker, who report that Marco Rose can probably continue to rely on Poulsen, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The 29-year-old, who has played 715 minutes across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season, is yet to score but has established himself as an important member of the playing squad.

With an expiring contract in 2024, Kicker’s report doesn’t given any indication on the length of the player’s potential new deal.

Who is Yussuf Poulsen?

Born in Denmark, Poulsen was born to a Tanzanian father and a Danish mother. He joined RB Leipzig in 2013 from Lyngby BK for €1.55m, and has played in 370 games for Leipzig across all competitions, scoring 85 goals and creating 65. Poulsen has represented the Saxony club in the 3. Liga, through to the Bundesliga and Champions League.

According to Transfermarkt, Poulsen’s current market value is €7m, which has continued to drop since June 2019, when the Danish forward sat at €35m.
