Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper: Michael Zetterer (Werder Bremen)

Despite being on the losing side, Zetterer kept his side in the match with four saves which included a strong hand at the near post from a powerful Donyell Malen shot inside the box.

Centre-back: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Another calm and composed performance from Hummels who looks like he has a point to prove this season after missing out on the title last season.

Centre-back: Anthony Rouault (Stuttgart)

The Frenchman was an important part of Stuttgart keeping a clean sheet away from home with three clearances and four tackles. Even provided an assist for the first goal with a pinpoint floated cross onto Guirassy’s head.

Centre-back: Matthias Ginter (Freiburg)

It was a very busy afternoon for Ginter as he made every contribution possible to prevent his team from drawing the match. The Freiburg centre-back made five clearances including one off the line, two interceptions and blocked two shots.

Left Wing Back: Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)

Another team of the week appearance for Grimaldo as another goal takes his tally up to three goals and three assists for the season. The Spaniard is becoming a vital part of Xabi Alonso’s team with his defensive and attacking contributions.

Centre Midfield: Florian Kainz (FC Köln)

Stepped up in the big pressure moments in the Rhine derby as he tucked away both of his penalties.

Centre Midfield: Fredrik Jensen (Augsburg)

Provided two assists to get his team back in the game and was the creative spark that was instrumental in Augsburg scoring five goals past Heidenheim.

Right Wing Back: Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

Scored a volley at the back post which just about crossed the line and then provided an assist for fellow wing back Alejandro Grimaldo. His runs in behind caused Wolfsburg problems all afternoon.

Attacking Midfielder: Julian Brandt (Borussia Dortmund)

The match winner for Dortmund scored an elegant goal by making a run inside the defence and then chipping the ball over the goalkeeper. He provided six key passes and created three big chances in a game that Dortmund should have scored more.

Attacking Midfielder: Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg)

The Freiburg captain was vital in their victory as he assisted the first goal, scored from the penalty spot, provided five key passes and created two big chances.

Striker: Loïs Openda (RB Leipzig)

Scored after just 44 seconds and then wrapped the game up for Leipzig with a neat finish into the bottom left corner.
