RB Leipzig reach agreement with Hoffenheim to sign Christoph Baumgartner

Kicker report this evening that an agreement has been reached between Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig for the transfer of Christoph Baumgartner (23), with the Austria international set to move in a €24m deal.

An agreement between RB Leipzig and Baumgartner was reached last week with the 23-year-old expected to sign a five-year contract until 2028 with the DFB Pokal champions.

Although the deal is near finalised, Baumgartner’s move isn’t expected to be made official until after the international break with the Austrian representing his country against Belgium (June 17) and Sweden (June 20), and his medical not taking place until after these games.

Arriving at Hoffenheim in 2017 from St. Pölten, Baumgartner has played 138 games across all competitions, scoring 30 and creating 22. He was also key in securing TSG’s Bundesliga status last season with 14 goal contributions (7 goals, 7 assists) in 33 league games.

Although the imminent arrival of Baumgartner, this isn’t expected to play a role in the future or Dominik Szoboszlai, who is being courted by Newcastle United. The Hungarian has a reported release clause of €70m.
