RB Leipzig had an offer for Naby Keïta rejected in January

Bild are reporting that RB Leipzig had an offer rejected by Liverpool for Naby Keïta which they made on deadline day.

With injuries to Dani Olmo and Christopher Nkunku, Keïta was one of several targets as back up for Leipzig. However, the bid was vetoed by Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool currently lack midfield options so the Guinean will be needed for the rest of the season.

Leipzig may return for Keïta in the summer as his contract expires then and they will also need additional midfield options with the likes of Nkunku (Chelsea) and Konrad Laimer (Bayern Munich) both expected to leave in the summer. With Olmo, it is reported that he will extend his contract at Leipzig, but it will come with a release clause that will be immediately valid in the summer.

The 27-year-old played for Leipzig between 2016 and 2018 making 71 appearances. His form earned him a move to Liverpool worth €60m but has been unable to justify that fee during his time in England.
