Raphaël Guerreiro unlikely to stay at Borussia Dortmund

Sport1 reports that it is looking increasingly unlikely that Raphaël Guerreiro will stay at Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Dortmund had previously offered Guerreiro a new deal, but it is reported that Dortmund has not received an answer on this proposed new deal. The offer was said to have been Guerreiro’s current salary of €5m-5.5m but there would have been additional performance incentives in the deal.

It is believed within the squad at Dortmund that Guerreiro will leave the club at the end of the season. Dortmund had previously been keen on keeping the 29-year-old who had also stated his desire to stay at the club.

One idea that Sport1 proposes is that Guerreiro is waiting to see how he fits into the future plans of Dortmund. Ramy Bensebaini is reportedly close to joining the club on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach while winter signing Julian Ryerson has filled in at left-back, meaning Guerreiro could assess the situation and see if he will be a backup option and if he is, the left-back will likely leave.

The 29-year-old is currently the top assister in the Bundesliga with 12 in 25 games for Dortmund. After initially starting the season at left-back, Guerreiro found a new lease of life in central midfield, however, after a brief run in the middle of the park he has been moved back to his original position.
