In one of the marquee games of the season, RB Leipzig Bayern Munich

In the first half, Bayern proved to be shaky in defence with a mistake by Sven Ulreich going unpunished. Leipzig got their breakthrough in the 20th minute when Loïs Openda’s shot deflected off of Kim Min-Jae leaving Ulreich helpless. Six minutes later, Leipzig would double their lead when Castello Lukeba scored from a corner. 

Bayern were able to regain control of the game in the second half and their efforts were rewarded when they were given a penalty in the 57th minute from a Benjamin Henrichs handball which Harry Kane converted. Leroy Sané would continue his great form and equalise for Bayern in the 70th minute. The last 20 minutes of the game proved to be end-to-end between the two sides but neither were able to produce any meaningful chances.

Xaver Schlager – 8 – Was at the centre of everything for Leipzig on both fronts. Schalger provided the assist for Openda’s goal but throughout the game was key in breaking down Bayern’s attacks and without him Leipzig could of likely lost the game in the second half.

Yussuf Poulsen – 6

Loïs Openda – 7 – Caused several issues for Bayern’s defence in the first half with his well-timed runs and speed and was rewarded with a goal. In the second half, he tailed off as Bayern regained control.

Bayern Munich:

Sven Ulreich – 4 – Had a mixed game, with his mistakes in the first half costing Bayern massively, while other mistakes went unpunished. In the second half, he would redeem himself, coming out to intercept a loose touch from Seško.

Leroy Sané – 8 – Is arguably Bayern’s best player in the opening games of the season. The winger is constantly the source of Bayern’s attacks and continues to grow in confidence compared to the winger he was last season.
