As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich are close to re-signing defender Jérôme Boateng.
Having kept himself fit and injury-free since leaving Lyon in the summer, Die Rekordmeister have identified Boateng as a suitable solution to their defensive issues. It is understood that the former Bayern defender has completed part of his medical already and is close to rejoining the record champions.
As reported by Philipp Kessler, Boateng is expected to take part in team training at the Säbener Straße later on Sunday, before joining up with the first team early next week. However, it is not yet clear whether the 35-year-old will receive a six month contract, or a deal until the end of the season.
In a week that saw all three of Bayern’s experienced central defenders sidelined with injury for the DFB-Pokal game against Preußen Münster, Thomas Tuchel and the club’s management have decided that signing another centre-back is key.
As well as this, it is expected that Tarek Buchmann’s muscular injury will keep him out for the next few weeks. This means that due to the lack of promising young defenders at the club, Tuchel would have few alternatives to turn too in the middle of his defence.
