Official | Xavi Simons joins RB Leipzig on a season long loan from PSG

RB Leipzig have announced that they have completed the signing of Dutch international Xavi Simons on a season long loan from PSG.

The loan move will be without an option to buy and the 20-year-old will return to PSG next summer. Simons had returned to PSG this summer after they activated a buy-back clause in his PSV Eindhoven contract worth €6m.

On his move to the Bundesliga, Simons said: “For me, the Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in Europe and RB Leipzig is one of the strongest clubs in the Bundesliga. That’s why it’s the right step for me to move to Leipzig.”

Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl also commented on why Leipzig decided to pursue the Dutchman: “In his position, he is one of the best players in European football for his age group.”

Simons is Leipzig’s fifth attacking signing this summer after the arrivals of Benjamin Seško (Red Bull Salzburg), Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim), Fabio Carvalho (Liverpool) and Loïs Openda (RC Lens).

Statistically, Simons is likely a replacement for Dominik Szoboszlai, who joined Liverpool earlier this summer but is presence in front of goal, seen with his 19 goals in his sole Eredivise season, could also seem him replace Christopher Nkunku who was another of Leipzig’s main attackers to leave the club this summer.
