Official | Croatian talent Dion Beljo joins Augsburg

Bundesliga side Augsburg have today announced the signing of 20-year-old Croatian forward Dion Beljo from NK Osijek for a reported €3m. The U21 youth international has signed a deal until 2027.

“It was very impressive how those responsible at FCA sold the club to me,” said Beljo. “They showed me the aims and prospects for the club, which I can fully identify with. As a result, I am very happy about the move. The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in Europe and it is very appealing to me to prove myself at this level. I would like to help the team with goals and assists as well as my attitude, so that we can be successful as a team.”

Fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach also showed an interest in signing Beljo last summer, but a move failed to materialise. Beljo signed a contract upon the club returning from their Spanish training camp.

Beljo’s arrival comes following confirmation that Florian Niederlechner will leave the club for Hertha Berlin when his contract expires in the summer, whilst Mergim Berisha will also return to Fenerbahçe.

The Croatian has scored eight and created two in 16 league games for Osijek this season. The 20-year-old has scored 10 in 35 games across all competitions, and was also prolific during his loan spell at Istra 1961, where he scored 20 and created four in 37 games in all competitions.

Augsburg resume their Bundesliga campaign against Borussia Dortmund on January 22. Die Fuggerstädter are currently one point above the relegation playoff.
