Napoli hopeful of signing Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi

As reported by Bild, Italian champions Napoli are hopeful of signing Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi.

Since January it has been clear that Italian clubs had been monitoring Doekhi’s development at Union, with AS Roma even attempting to sign the defender. However, it has been reported that Doekhi could be at the top of Napoli’s transfer list with South Korean defender Kim-Min Jae set to sign for Bayern Munich.

“I know that Doekhi is on Napoli’s list,” said Doekhi’s advisor, Seraino Dalgliesh to Italian radio station CRC. Dalgliesh would conclude with: “We’ll see what happens when Kim’s transfer goes through.”

It has been a phenomenal season for Union Berlin and Doekhi with the season culminating in Champions League qualification for the first time in Die Eisernen’s history. Doekhi’s contract is set to expire in 2025, meaning that this would be the most valuable time to sell their star centre-half.

Last season, the 25-year-old featured 36 times for the club from Köpenick, scoring a total of six goals while collecting two assists. This left the Dutchman the leading scorer for Bundesliga centre-backs while keeping 14 clean sheets in the process.

Union Berlin would be willing to sell key players this summer with striker Sheraldo Becker and Doekhi the most prized assets at the club. With a market value of €17m, it would be realistic for Union to expect €20m or more for Doekhi.
