Mats Hummels to make decision on his Borussia Dortmund future this month

As reported by Sport Bild, Mats Hummels will make a final decision on his Borussia Dortmund future at the end of this month.

The 34-year-old central defender is faced with three potential options. The first option is a simple contract extension with BVB. However, the World Cup winner would have to cut his salary by almost half to €10m per year and his contract will be more performance-based. This contract extension may also include a potential role as a club ambassador or youth coach as well.

Hummels’ second option is a move abroad. In the past, the defender has spoken about heading to the USA but a transfer within Europe is more likely due to family reasons. Could a Premier League side swoop in for a brilliant free transfer deal?

The player’s last potential option is retirement. Having struggled with injuries over the past few seasons, Hummels may feel it’s time finally hang up his boots after a long and successful career.

Hummels will make his final decision in a few weeks’ time with his contract expiring a few months later.
