Marco Reus to take salary cut to sign Borussia Dortmund extension

Marco Reus (33) will take a salary cut to sign a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund.

As reported by Bild, Reus’ extension is now just a formality and could be made official as early as next week. However, to extend his contract beyond 2023 by a further year, Reus will take a reported pay cut from €12m per year to €7m after performance bonuses.

With his experience, Reus remains an integral member of this Borussia Dortmund squad, but he only managed a place on the bench in BVB’s 2-1 win against Union Berlin on Saturday – he replaced Donyell Malen in the 74th minute, with Edin Terzic preferring pace in the wide areas.

This season, Reus has scored eight and created seven in 24 games across all competitions. In February, Reus scored his 150th goal for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions and is now Dortmund’s second highest goalscorer with 161 goals, surpassing Michael Zorc (159).
