Manu Koné suffers knee injury on France U21 duty

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné (22) suffered a knee injury during France U21’s 4-1 victory against Switzerland on Wednesday night, which will see the player miss the remainder of the competition.

Koné was pictured leaving the stadium on crutches after being replaced by Enzo Le Fée in the 19th minute. It’s not yet certain just how long the Frenchman will be sidelined for. At Borussia Mönchengladbach, they will await on the diagnosis but it’s an injury that could have repercussions in their transfer plans.

After joining Gladbach from Toulouse in 2021 for €9m, Koné was considered a candidate to leave the club this summer with Die Fohlen ready to listen to offers upwards of €40m, which would see them earn a record fee.

Koné, who has progressed the ball the most for Gladbach over the last two years, garnered interest from top European clubs such as PSG, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea while a percentage of the funds received would have been invested back into the club enter a rebuild period under Gerardo Seoane and Roland Virkus following the departures of Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini.
