Bayern Munich confirm João Cancelo and Daley Blind departures

Bayern Munich have today confirmed the departures of João Cancelo and Daley Blind. Cancelo returns to Manchester City following the end of his loan spell, while Blind leaves the club after his six-month contract expired.

Cancelo played 21 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich, scoring one and creating six, following his six-month loan spell from City. But it was reported back in April that the Rekordmeister were unwilling to activate the purchase option, which was a reported €70m. It was suggested that Bayern would try to negotiate a lower figure but in the end, decided to pursue other targets.

Blind’s spell at Bayern Munich was a little different, playing just 157 minutes of football across five games. The Dutchman was never used following the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in March.

As reported on Thursday night, Bayern Munich plan to go into the 2023/24 season with Kim Min-jae, who is expected to join once Bayern activate his €50m exit clause, Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and homegrown players Josip Stanišić and Tarek Buchmann.
