Makoto Hasebe leaning towards a contract extension

Bild reports that Makoto Hasebe nears a contract extension with Eintracht Frankfurt with his current deal expiring in the summer.

There have already been discussions between Hasebe and Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche and an extension is likely to be announced soon. The 39-year-old is still important for Frankfurt on the pitch but more importantly off it due to his vast experience.

The extension is likely to be a year-long and will take Hasebe past his 40th birthday, while also extending his stay in Frankfurt to over 10 years.

Hasebe joined Frankfurt in 2014 from Nuremberg on a free transfer but he has spent over 15 years in Germany having played for Wolfsburg during their Bundesliga-winning season in 2009.

This season has seen the 39-year-old play less as he ages as he has played 16 times for Frankfurt this season however since the World Cup break he has started all but three games.
