Liverpool will trigger Dominik Szoboszlai’s €70m exit clause, according to Sky Germany’s Philipp Hinze. RB Leipzig have also been informed about Liverpool’s decision.
Fabrizio Romano further adds that Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Szoboszlai, who will undergo a medical with the Premier League club shortly. This news comes just days after The Athletic reported that Liverpool were exploring a move to sign Szoboszlai.
Leipzig had no need to sell Szoboszlai following the Christopher Nkunku’s move to Chelsea and Josko Gvardiol’s likely departure to Manchester City, meaning a club would have to trigger the €70m release clause, which expires midnight tonight.
Szoboszlai was key for RB Leipzig last season with 23 goal contributions (10 goals, 13 assists) in 46 games across all competitions. The Hungarian also has two DFB Pokal titles with the Bundesliga club.
Although it played no part in the deal, Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho earlier completed a season-long loan move from the Premier League side to Leipzig.
