Lazio are targeting Hertha Berlin’s Dodi Lukebakio

As reported via Sky Germany, Lazio are looking to sign Hertha Berlin forward Dodi Lukebakio.

After relegation from the Bundesliga last season, Hertha are looking to sell their most valuable assets in order to recoup the finances they will lose in Germany’s second tier. Lukebakio is one of the few players that can generate Die Alte Dame significant income, and with his contract set to expire next summer, a sale now would be the last chance to receive such a fee.

It is estimated that Lukebakio could earn the relegated Berlin club around €12m which would be significantly beneficial. However, it would still be an €8m loss as the 25-year-old arrived in the capital for €20m four years ago, highlighting the financial mismanagement at the club in recent years.

Last season, Lukebakio scored 12 goals and collected five assists in 33 appearances for Hertha as they finished at the foot of the Bundesliga table. However, his positive early season form would not be enough to earn him a call-up to the Belgium World Cup squad.

While Lazio are hopeful of signing the 25-year-old, there is also competition from fellow Serie A rivals; Fiorentina and Inter Milan. As for Hertha, with Jessic Ngankam’s move to Eintracht Frankfurt becoming imminent, the additional loss of Lukebakio would be difficult for Pál Dárdai to replace.
