Josko Gvardiol to stay at RB Leipzig until 2024

Speaking to Sky Germany, Max Eberl revealed RB Leipzig’s plan with Josko Gvardiol after the centre-back had a strong showing at the World Cup.

On whether Leipzig will let Gvardiol go any time soon, Eberl said: “Because of the contract extension with Josko, we have the reins in our hands, the club has done an outstanding job. Soccer has gone crazy, but our interest is zero that we want to give Josko away in the summer.”

Recently, Gvardiol has also provided a statement on his future: “My plan is to stay here. I think everyone saw Max Eberl’s statement. That’s OK for me.”

It is reported by Sky Germany that Gvardiol has a release clause in his contract of €110m that will become active in 2024. The 20-year-old joined Leipzig in 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. He was key for Croatia as they finished third at the World Cup.

Leipzig currently sit third in the league, after a poor start under Domenico Tedesco they replaced him with Marco Rose and have experienced a big turn around losing only to Borussia Mönchengladbach and Real Madrid in the time he has been in charge. They begin the year against Bayern Munich on January 20.
