Jonas Omlin will cost Borussia Mönchengladbach €7m

According to Bild, Montpellier’s Jonas Omlin will cost Borussia Mönchengladbach around €7m.

It’s looking increasingly likely that the current number one, Yann Sommer, will be departing for Bayern Munich this January. It was reported this week that the Swiss international has a verbal agreement with Bayern and is expected to complete a €5m move to the club.

Talks between both Omlin and Gladbach have occurred over the past few days as club sporting director Roland Virkus wants him. However, the French club would only consider letting Omlin go if they themselves have a replacement ready to sign.

Omlin joined Montpellier from Basel in 2020 and has since played 72 games for the club. Also a Swiss international, the 26-year-old was at the World Cup last year alongside Sommer but is currently third choice.

This is often a sticking point when it comes to number one goalkeeper’s moving club. It causes a domino effect with multiple clubs looking for alternatives. Should one club not find a suitable replacement, it’s likely to stop any other possible transfers from occurring.
