After returning to treble-winning Manchester City following the conclusion of his loan spell at Bayern Munich, Premier League side Arsenal are now showing an interest in signing the Portuguese defender, according to Kicker.
Arsenal have had recent success stories when recruiting from Manchester City in the form of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus. Now, Mikel Arteta’s side see Cancelo as an ideal solution at full-back, and the Portugal international can cover both flanks.
With a contract at Manchester City until 2027, Cancelo (29) has a market value of €50m, via Transfermarkt, after extending his contract in 2022. And as reported in April, Bayern Munich decided against activating their €70m purchase option on the defender.
During his six months at Bayern Munich, Cancelo scored one and created six in 21 games across all competitions, but also played 26 games in all competitions for Manchester City in the first half of the season, recording seven goal contributions.
Per the report, Arsenal have identified RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs and Galatasaray’s Sacha Boey as alternatives should a move for Cancelo prove too expensive.
