Internal allegations aimed at Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić

It has been a strange few months for Borussia Dortmund. Six months on from throwing away the Bundesliga title at home to Mainz, BvB are in an entirely different crisis. With the Meisterschle now practically out of reach, as they sit ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen, internal allegations have been aimed at head coach Edin Terzić.

According to Bild, rumours are circulating around the club of discontent with how Terzić has gone about his business so far this season. As well as this, the Dortmund head coach has had to contend with tension arising between himself and his players, as previously reported regarding Niclas Füllkrug.

Nevertheless, firstly, there is a sense of bewilderment surrounding Terzić’s decisions during Der Klassiker compared to the following Champions League clash with Newcastle. The difference in tempo when comparing the two performances is stark, which has opened Terzić up to scrutiny due to how poorly BvB played against Der Rekordmeister before playing Newcastle off the park.

Furthermore, it has become evident just how important Julian Brandt has been to Dortmund this season. Therefore, it is being questioned why Terzić is utilising the 27-year-old out wide when he has influenced games far more from central positions.

Finally, the mixture of Terzić’s emotions and how he has acted in the transfer market has also made many within the club scratch their heads. On multiple occasions, Terzić has explained how he is emotionally invested in the club, which has led to decisions such as promoting Emre Can to club captain but rejecting the chance to sign midfield target Edson Álvarez, leaving many confused.

Regardless, his position at the club is considered to be safe for now. While Dortmund may be significantly underperforming in the league, their progress in the Champions League has ensured his future; however, if things are to change in Europe, then Terzić may find himself on borrowed time.
