Granit Xhaka to join Bayer Leverkusen from Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano and Sky Germany report that Granit Xhaka is to join Bayer Leverkusen from Arsenal with agreements reached between all parties.

Xhaka will join Leverkusen for €25m and sign a contract until 2028. Sky reports that the 30-year-old has already completed his medical at the club, an announcement is expected later today.

Leverkusen have had personal terms agreed with Xhaka since May meaning there was a hold-up on the deal. Stefan Bienkowski reports that the sale was on hold as the Swiss international and Arsenal still had previous agreements needing to be ironed out.

This will not be Xhaka’s first time in the Bundesliga. The 30-year-old previously played for Borussia Mönchengladbach between 2012 and 2016 before moving to Arsenal for €45m. One of the reasons behind Xhaka’s departure is due to his wife wanting to return home to Germany as the two met during the 30-year-old’s time at Gladbach.
